On Thursday, April 27, the inaugural EnrichHER Business Conference was held at Atlanta Tech Village in Buckhead, GA. Dr. Roshawnna Novellus, event creator and co-founder of Bootstrap Capital, partnered with the City of Atlanta to support women entrepreneurs during a two-day conference that engaged over 250 participants.

The conference focused on the development of successful women business leaders. Six women led businesses participated in EnrichHER's business pitch competition. The winner, Lalanya Abner of Imagination Beyond Boundaries, was awarded $5,000 in funding. 

Lisa Nicole Cloud, CEO of Elite Marketing Strategies and star of BRAVO TV's Married to Medicine, was the keynote speaker. Rashan Ali, multi-media personality, was the master of ceremony

Grace Fricks, Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs

Grace Fricks founded ACE in 1997 and continues to oversee all operational aspects of the organization. Fueled by the belief that everyone who has a dream — and the drive and desire to make it happen — deserves the opportunity to succeed, Fricks has steered ACE to specialize in working with underserved populations, particularly women, people of color and low-income business owners.  Fricks has carved out a visible and respected niche for ACE in both the financial industry and the business community. Her efforts have yielded numerous accolades, including being named to the following lists: Bizwomen’s 100 Women to Watch for 2016, Atlanta Business Chronicle’s Women Who Mean Business (2016) and the 100 Most Influential Georgians by Georgia Trend Magazine (2014).

Theia Washington-Smith, WEI

As the founding Executive Director of the City of Atlanta’s Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative (WEI), Theia Smith’s passion lies in championing for equal access to economic self‐sufficiency for women and girls, particularly those whose talent is often overlooked and under sourced. As the director of the only city‐funded initiative of its kind in the nation, Theia was appointed to her position by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed to conceptualize, design and execute a rigorous solution to equalizing opportunities for entrepreneurial advancement for women business owners in Atlanta. Within the first six months of Theia’s leadership, WEI’s cumulative effect included attracting resource support from Goldman Sachs’ 10K Small Business initiative, equity involvement from Atlanta‐based Access to Capital for Entrepreneurs, technology sponsorship from Microsoft and the convening of an advisory board comprised of some of the nation’s leading business influencers, including Carol Tome’, CFO of The Home Depot, as the board’s chairperson. 

Dina Marto, Twelve Music & Studios

Dina Marto is the visionary behind Twelve Music & Studios, an artist development company and recording studio in Atlanta. Twelve is responsible for mega hits such as Nicki Minaj’s “Anaconda” and Miley Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop”. During her tenure at Island Def Jam, she was mentored by Antonio “L.A.” Reid and the late Shakir Stewart. Twelve received a Proclamation from the City of Atlanta and has become the home to powerhouse music industry entities such as Maybach Music Group (MMG), Epic Records, and Empire Distribution. Marto was born in Amman, Jordan and graduated from Oglethorpe University.

Susan Sim Oh, Telemudo Atlanta

Susan Sim Oh, Managing Partner for Telemundo Atlanta handles all business development aspects including contractual obligations, carriage negotiations and programming contracts for Telemundo Atlanta, a premier Spanish-language television station. Oh launched Telemundo Atlanta in 2009 and continues to oversee distribution, local programming, marketing and news operations at Telemundo Atlanta. In 2011, Oh spearheaded 4 of Telemundo Atlanta's signature annual events that are an integral part of the Latino community: NaviDando Christmas promotion for families in need, Todos Somos Héroes community awards luncheon, Festivalísimo Fall Festival and Proyecto Rayito de Luz room makers for terminally ill children. In March of 2012, Oh recruited talent and developed the workflow and structure for the leading local Spanish- language newscasts in the market, Noticerio Telemundo Atlanta. In June of 2015, Oh along with her team expanded the news offerings to include a 5:30pm newscast and introduced a newly designed news set to accompany the launch of the news expansion. Telemundo Atlanta provides the most local news in Spanish in the Atlanta DMA with daily 5:30pm, 6pm and 11pm live newscasts.

Veronica Maldonado - Torres, Georgia Mentor Protégé Connection

Veronica Maldonado- Torres is a highly versatile and visionary Latina business woman, small business champion, supplier diversity advocate and community leader with 10+ years of professional experience and successes. Veronica excels in building strategic alliances and fostering win-win relationships among diverse stakeholders. As an innovative thinker with excellent communication and consensus-building skills. Prior to founding PINK Magazine, Genevieve was a technology entrepreneur for 17 years, during which time she started and sold multiple venture-backed companies. She created strategic alliances with the likes of Microsoft, Intel, Sun Microsystems and Universal Studios; developed and managed highly profitable international sales teams; and published an award-winning magazine for the digital printing and publishing industry called Digital Output. Genevieve also published an acclaimed Georgia-based magazine called Business to Business, for which she produced numerous sold-out conferences that featured Top 500 CEOs.

Most recently, Abigail served as executive vice president of national operations, in charge of more than 500 Randstad US commercial staffing retail and on-site locations. Kristy West, Account Director at The Second City Works

Kristy works with some of the biggest names in comedy like Tina Fey, Steven Colbert and Steve Carell to name a few. She spent 14 years working in sales and business development in the Atlanta market while also pursuing the study of improvisation as a hobby. Over time, she started to notice her improv training spilling over into her professional life helping her develop critical communication skills that helped her turn the corner professionally. In 2009 she founded a training company bringing a unique business model to the southeast market taking the art of improvisation into companies teaching communication skills like listening, collaboration, change management, conflict resolution, creativity, storytelling, teamwork and various other soft skills that are critical to building success in work environments..

 Jasmine Crowe, an HBCU alumna and MBA graduate is working to make the world a better place one cause at a time. Jasmine’s goal is to foster change and create awareness about the leading socioeconomic issues and challenges of today, like poverty, education and hunger. In October of 2016, she created Goodr, a real-time food rescue app with a goal to reduce food waste and eliminate hunger.

Marissa Swanson spent 9 years of her life studying and practicing architecture. Next, she decided to move into the startup ecosystem and won the Women Who Code Hackathon. As a winner, she received a year membership at the Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC). Now she has developed and tested an MVP for Toss, a personal styling application that uses your existing wardrobe to curate outfits based on weather and event type.

Jen’s appreciation for beer grew from experiencing it with her dad.From the first sip, she was hooked. She launched The Atlanta Beer Boutique in 2011 as a beer blog that evolved into a private events company. As a Project Manger in the Urban Planning industry and lifelong volunteer, Jen possesses a genuine appreciation for community. The future of ABB combines her love of beer and civic engagement in a communal space. Jen is a Certified Beer Server and is currently studying to become a Cicerone (beer sommelier). She is the author of “The Chick’s Guide to Beer” due in stores, soon.

 

Two of Atlanta’s most recognized dancers, somewhere between Generation X and Millennials, have combined their talent, training, experience and prodigious love for dance and dancers to create Dare Dream Dance Company [ 3D ]. Founded in 2014 by Cici Kelley with the vision to provide students with a bridge that carries them from the dance classroom to the production set, and coupling with Rae Ransom Coleman whose life-long goal, since dancing at Spelman College at the age of four years, has been to own her own dance studio, these dance women are doing it – living their dream, setting the stage for young people who want to dance and dare to dream that they can dance their way to success.

Joyce Estrada is celebrating her 10th anniversary as an educator and transformed into an edupreneur.  She has experience teaching Spanish, ESL, Language Arts, and Global Connections for Gwinnett County Public Schools and the Ron Clark Academy.  In 2016, she opened the doors to her classroom to teach Spanish & English in the Metro Atlanta area.  But, her dream is for everyone to speak with an accent. She wants learning a language to be accessible, affordable, and engaging!

Lalanya Abner is a graduate of Howard University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with a focus in Acting/Directing and minor in Philosophical Arts. She’s had the pleasure of studying side by side with established actors, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Chadwick Bosmen, Taraji P. Henson and Laz Alonso. Lalanya is the creator of Imagine Beyond Boundaries’ Young Indigo series of books and content.
